Best Espresso Machine Overall

Philips Automatic Espresso Machine (EP1220/00)

What We Like

Simple, easy-to-use design
Fresh coffee with every brew
Compact and efficient

What We Don’t Like

Frother is manual
Water tank needs frequent refills

The espresso machine crowned as best amongst everything else: the Philips EP1220/00. We’ve been using it for weeks now and it’s quickly become our go-to for coffee at home.

It’s simple and intuitive to use, not requiring professional level knowledge so coffee lovers – wherever you are at in your journey, this espresso maker can be your best friend. With just a push of a button, it grinds fresh beans and brews your favorite drink.

To be honest, we loved how easy it was to adjust the aroma strength for a coffee experience that feels especially crafted for us.

If we had to pick though, one of the best features has to be its ceramic grinder. We tested it by using different types of coffee beans: Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica. The machine ground each one evenly, and the coffee brewed with a nice, rich crema.

The verdict? Arabica beans resulted in a smooth and mild espresso, while lady Robusta gave a stronger more intense shot! All thanks to the adjustable grind settings that allowed us to control and get the right flavour.

One-touch brewing and a ceramic grinder for fresh, flavorful coffee, every time.

What really makes this machine shine, though, is the convenience. It’s got a My Coffee Choice menu, so we can choose between three different strength options and adjust the quantity for whatever suits our mood. The touch display is user-friendly, and it’s easy to make changes on the fly.

However, there’s a small downside: the milk frother is manual, so it takes a bit more effort than automatic ones, but I’m sure seasoned coffee lovers and beginners alike can operate this without a hitch.

A more noticeable issue is the water tank size. While it holds 1.8L, it tends to run out faster than we expected if we’re brewing several cups a day. It’s not a huge problem, but it’s something to keep in mind if you plan on using it for multiple drinks at a time.

All in all, the Philips EP1220/00 is a solid performer for anyone looking for an affordable, easy-to-use espresso machine that delivers great coffee consistently. It’s not the most high-tech option out there, but for its price, we think it strikes the perfect balance between quality and convenience.

Best Espresso Machine for Value

De’Longhi Icona Vintage Espresso Machine (ECOV 311)

What We Like

Stylish vintage design
Easy-to-use manual controls
Affordable price for quality

What We Don’t Like

Frothing wand takes time
Portafilter is a bit small

Looking for a wallet-friendly, blast from the past type of espresso machine? The De’Longhi Icona Vintage ECOV311 might just be what you need. This machine’s sleek retro style makes you feel like you’re in a classic diner with modern espresso-making capabilities.

The best feature we found in this one was the 15-bar pump pressure. This system ensures you get a rich, full-bodied espresso with a nice crema every time. When we were testing it, we really loved how the machine makes it so easy to brew authentic coffee at home.

And if you’re new to espresso-making, the Icona Vintage is perfect. The simple dial and indicator lights make it easy to operate, even for beginners.

Classic retro design with a 15-bar pump for café-quality espresso.

But it’s not all about looks – this machine performs. The dual-shot brewing capability is a great touch, especially when you and a friend want to knock back shots at the same time – or maybe you just want a double dose for yourself. Either way, you get the best of both worlds (or cups!)

Now, let’s talk about the minor downsides. First, the steam wand isn’t as powerful as some of the more expensive models, so it takes a little longer to froth the milk – but that’s no dealbreaker if you don’t mind spending a few extra seconds.

Also, while the portafilter works well, it’s a bit on the small side, so if you’re used to larger commercial machines, you might find it a little cramped.

Overall, if you’re after a machine that delivers great coffee without costing a fortune, the De’Longhi Icona Vintage ECOV311 offers outstanding value. It’s perfect for anyone looking to step up their coffee game without splurging on a high-end machine.

Best Space-Saving Espresso Machine

Cafelffe Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine (MK601F)

What We Like

Compact and space-saving
Versatile for hot and cold brewing
Easy to clean

What We Don’t Like

Milk frothing takes one cup at a time
Portafilter can be limiting

If you’re looking for an espresso machine that won’t take up your whole counter, but still delivers great coffee, the Cafelffe MK601F is definitely worth a look. Though small in size, it’s packed with a lot of surprises that’ll make you wonder how it all fit.

This compact beauty combines a lot of functions into one neat package. It’s a 4-in-1 machine, meaning it works with ground coffee, Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, and E.S.E. pods — all in one space-saving unit. Perfect for minimalists, small kitchen owners, or those who like multipurpose things.

But what really sold us on this one? It’s the versatility of this machine. Not only does it make great hot espresso, but it can also whip up iced coffee. Honestly, when we heard of this, it was the first thing we tried. Espresso machines are commonly known for their hot cups so this feature really gave us a treat.

So, if you’re craving an iced Americano or cold latte, the MK601F has you covered. It’s ideal for those hot afternoons when you want to cool down with something refreshing.

Compact 4-in-1 functionality for coffee enthusiasts with limited counter space.

What’s more is that, while it is indeed compact, you’re not short of a manual steam wand for milk frothing. Given the size, we would have been fine without this wand, but knowing that it’s there just shows how much of a package this espresso maker is. To make things better, the top of the espresso machine also serves as a cup warmer while waiting for your coffee to brew.

Now, a couple of small things to keep in mind. The frothing process takes a little more time than usual, so don’t expect to crank out a bunch of drinks in rapid succession. But honestly, for the price, we didn’t mind waiting a little longer for that nice frothy milk.

Also, the portafilter is a bit on the small side. If you’re used to bigger, commercial-sized portafilters, this might feel a little cramped, but it still gets the job done.

All in all, for anyone who needs a compact machine that delivers on both versatility and great-tasting coffee, the Cafelffe MK601F is a solid choice. It’s perfect for small kitchens or anyone looking to save space but still enjoy a variety of coffee options without all the clutter.

Best Espresso Machine for Frequent Brewing

TJean Semi-Automatic Coffee Master X1

What We Like

Dual boiler system
Smart tamping for consistency
Built-in conical grinder

What We Don’t Like

Bulky and heavy
Milk frothing takes practice

If you’re someone who loves a steady supply of espresso or needs to make multiple cups a day(like me — guilty) , the TJean Coffee Master X1 is built just for you. This prosumer-grade machine is not just for casual coffee drinkers; it’s designed to handle heavy use, which makes it a perfect pick for anyone who enjoys frequent brewing—whether at home or in a small office.

The standout feature here is the dual boiler system. This allows the machine to brew espresso and steam milk at the same time, so you don’t have to wait between making espresso and frothing your milk.

It was such a game changer, not having to wait too much, especially when we tested it with back-to-back five cups of coffee (these were shared!)

Dual boiler system and smart tamping for consistent, fast espresso brewing.

Aside from this, the TJean espresso maker has a built-in conical burr grinder, a perk that gives us fresh ground coffee. And if that’s not enough, it has a smart tamping system with the perfect pressure for each shot of espresso. It was quite an experience going from manually determining everything with our old espresso machines to not having to think with this one. It’s just tap, press, wait, and drink.

However, no machine is perfect. While the dual boiler system is amazing, the machine itself is pretty heavy and bulky—so it takes up quite a bit of space on the counter. At over 10 kg, you probably won’t be moving this one around too often.

Another minor issue is the milk frothing—the automatic frother works, but it might take a little practice to get that perfect foam. Besides, all coffee afficionados started at one point.

Overall, the TJean Coffee Master X1 is perfect for anyone who brews coffee frequently and wants a high-end experience without paying for a commercial machine. For those who are serious about coffee and need a machine that can handle heavy daily use, this one offers fantastic value.

Best High-Tech Espresso Machine

Philips LatteGo Automatic Espresso Machine (EP4346/70)

What We Like

Smart tech, easy customization
LatteGo milk system
One-touch brewing

What We Don’t Like

Froth texture needs adjustments
Takes up counter space

The future is here and it’s serving you coffee.

If you’re someone who values convenience and technology, then the Philips EP4346/70 LatteGo is definitely the espresso machine for you.

It’s an innovative, fully automatic machine that makes your home coffee experience feel like you’ve got a personal barista at your service. The LatteGo milk system is truly a game-changer – it froths milk in seconds without any tubes to clean, making your lattes and cappuccinos just that much easier to make and enjoy.

The best feature has to be the one-touch brewing. Whether you’re in the mood for a strong espresso, a creamy cappuccino, or a rich Americano, this machine takes care of it all at the push of a button. No more messing with grind settings or tamping, the machine adjusts everything automatically so that each cup is perfect.

What’s cooler is that you can customise your drink based on two user profiles. Can you imagine having your espresso machine know you? Well, your coffee preferences at least but this kind of feature really give it the high-tech fanciness.

LatteGo milk system for easy frothing and one-touch brewing for personalized coffee.

Beyond the ease of use, the smart technology built into the Philips LatteGo also includes automatic maintenance prompts, meaning you’ll be notified when it’s time to clean or replace the water filter. The machine really takes care of itself, which we appreciated especially during busy times.

However, there are a couple of minor downsides. While the frothed milk texture is generally great, we did find that the foam sometimes has larger bubbles that need fine-tuning, particularly with plant-based milk. The volume of milk dispensed could also vary slightly depending on how well the milk container is seated. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means, but something to note if you’re looking for perfection in your froth.

Also, as a larger machine, it does take up quite a bit of counter space, so you’ll need to ensure you have room for it before purchasing.

Still, for anyone looking for a high-tech espresso machine that combines convenience with quality, the Philips EP4346/70 LatteGo is an excellent choice, offering smart customization, ease of use, and impressive performance.
